The Love Lock Series: The Cinematic Art Chapter
During the first season of the Love Lock series I interviewed Caroline Masson, a fellow Swiftie who’s simply a ray of sunshine. Her boyfriend, Gavin Epp, shared a response that had me feeling like I was reading a romance novel. Here is his answer:
What made me fall in love with Caroline and what continues to make me fall in love with her every single day is her passion for finding meaning and purpose in everything. Every conversation, every person, every moment of everyday is significant, and she has taught me that.
One of the very first things we connected on was our mutual love for Greta Gerwig. We would talk about Little Women or Lady Bird for hours, discussing all the beautiful ways in which those movies explored love, family, relationships, what it means to be human, etc. For me, I just couldn’t believe the girl I had a crush on was as passionate about film as I was. I felt so lucky. Movies have always been a happy place for me, a place that can make me feel so alive because they can help me derive meaning and purpose in life from characters and stories I’ve never seen or heard before. But for Caroline, she can find meaning and purpose in just about anything. For her, those conversations we’d have at 3 a.m. about the beauty of movies were what she does 24/7, all year round. It comes so naturally to her. And that isn’t even the best part. She doesn’t just find beauty in every conversation, she helps you find it in your own life as well.
Before I even started dating her, I quickly realized that there’s something about Caroline Masson that caffeinates your soul. Something that leaves you feeling energized... awake and alive and excited about life. So I don’t think it’s a coincidence that in the past year of getting to be her boyfriend, I’ve by far watched the least amount of movies I ever have. When she’s by my side, she pushes me to find purpose in everything I do, big or small. She ignites something in me that desires to go deeper in every conversation I have and in every choice I make. Movies will always matter to me, but Caroline makes life itself feel richer, fuller, and more meaningful than any movie. And that’s what makes me fall in love with her every day.
