The Love Lock Series: The Rising Tides Chapter
I’m so excited to share a poem that Clio DeVitis wrote in response to “What makes you fall in love?” I have been a fan of her poetry for years (found on instagram @ink+trees, and in the collection To Be Human). I could go on and on about how much I love the way she captures big ideas in such little sentences, but without further adieu, here is Clio’s poem:
for some, falling in love
is a wave hugging you
from all sides
for others, it’s the consistency
of the tide kissing the shore
that turns their hearts soft
for some, falling in love
is the downpour of rain
inescapably heavy
for others, it’s the constant
patter of drop after drop
that turns their heart tender
Clio also shared with me that an important aspect of true love is that it develops over time. “That’s love at its truest—-the things love does over time is proven and challenged, so falling love happens over many suns and moons.” Love rises and falls and dances to the rhythm that suits two people best.
